Just what is Trauma Informed Care?

The term “Trauma Informed Care” and its importance has created quite a buzz lately in the healthcare and education. Its significance has now expanded to criminal justice system impacting the courts, police, probation & parole interactions. Trauma Informed Care refers to the impact of past physical and emotional trauma has on how individuals react to current interaction and how this impacts who they should be managed by contact professionals. Watch this video where Gary Klugiewicz explains that Trauma Informed Care needs to be applied not only to the person being cared for but also the caregiver. We all bring our past trauma to our current interactions that impact our response to unfolding events – sometimes with unexpected and negative consequences.
