‘The aim of a Training Needs Analysis (TNA) is to assesses and better meet the competency requirements of the organisation and the persons who operate within it. A TNA is a structured approach to identifying the training which is required in an organisation so that strategic (corporate, team or individual) objectives can be achieved. The TNA, to be most effective, should identify what staff need to know as part of their job, what they need to be able to do better and what they need to be able to do differently. The outcomes of a TNA should be used to establish both the objectives of the training (i.e. what the training aims to do and how this relates to the organisations objectives) and the specific learning outcomes (i.e. what the trainer will teach the participants).’
