Our principal trainer Gerard O’Dea spent four days recently with an organisation involved in the full time care, throughcare and aftercare programme for looked-after children. ┬áThe organisation wanted to focus on De-Escalation and Personal Saefty skills for staff and allocated 2 days for the training course to run through topics as follows:

Understanding Behaviour and Triggers

– The processes of aggression (Kaplan and Wheeler model)
– Behavioural triggers and the SCARF model
– Primal patterns of group behaviour – ‘Status seeking displays’

Verbal Defense and Influence concepts:

– Defusing and De-escalation of aggression
– Encouraging Compliance, Cooperation and Collaboration
– Beyond Active Listening and the Persuasion Sequence
